Conflict with Authority

•1 Samuel 16:1-13 – God takes the anointing from Saul and anoints David, who will soon be king.
•1 Samuel 17:28-54- you can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you!
David had been anointed God; therefore David trusted him. David was not afraid of losing the fight; he went out in order to glorify God. He knew that if God wanted to destroy Goliath He would.
•1 Samuel 18:6-16- Saul had realized David was the anointed, even the people of his kingdom began to favor David more
Saul tried to kill David; but Saul gets away. God had protected David time after time.
Remember you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. God shall protect you, through anything.
If someone has authority over you, respect them. It’s what God has intended for you. God has a time for you to be in authority, wait for that time patiently. When the time comes, take it gracefully. Before this happens submit to your authority. Most importantly we submit to God. Take up your cross, give your all to God’s authority.

Love sick (over view)

If we are to be in God we have to die our self. That is giving up our wants, including sexual immorality. Exodus 19:6- God has set Israel as a holy nation; God has also set us as a holy people. God has called us to do something greater than the world has taught us; sexual immorality is one of those things. We have a chance to be something different, to stand out because Jesus died for us. Do you want to conform to trends of the world or be set apart? Would you like to serve others or look out for yourself? The world teaches us to watch our own back but Christianity teaches us that Jesus has our back watched so look out for others.

Love sick (Humble yourself)

Philippians 2:3; you need to put others before yourself. We often like to “surpass” another; we want to be better than another. When we do this we are looking to help ourselves when we should be humbling ourselves and putting others above us. Society teaches us to “feel good” or to “show your body off” when that is not what God has put us on this earth for. God gave us life on this earth in order to go and grow. To help God reach out to followers, not for worldly wants and “needs”. When you are in a relationship you should humble yourself, their wants and needs should be before yours. In this you will find true happiness together, because when both of y’all are fighting to get what you want no one will win.  Philippians 2:1-11

Love Sick (Relationships)

Most people don’t marry the ones they dated in high school or in middle school. Imagine it like two pieces of paper, and you glue the two together. When you pull the two pieces of paper apart, you can’t get each piece of paper back exactly the way it was beforehand. This is just like when you date. When you are in a relationship with the opposite sex, you give parts of yourself to him. This is not always in a physical way; this can be in an emotional way. But when you and the one you are in a relationship with break up you can never get back exactly what you put in.
God is a jealous God. He created you for him, and he doesn’t want to share you with anyone. Don’t give your heart away to anyone; your heart is for God. Remember you can’t ever get your heart back perfectly the way it was. God loves you. He loves you more than you can even imagine. Don’t make him share you. Also remember God is the one who will always be there.

Friends- Identity

When you ignore God it disconnects you from Him, if you do this it forms a wall between you two. If you die with the wall up between you and God it will be there forever. Sometimes we seperate ourselves from others by putting up a wall, and sometimes we are seperated by the other person putting up a wall between you and them. You need to work on building bridges not building walls. Remember that what people say about you and how they label you may not be what God has destined for you. When you look in the mirrior you see an image God has created. He intend to live through you, and when you put yourself down you are putting God down as well.
* Colossians 3:1-3, Psalms 139:14, Mathew 7:12
*Think about making two lists- one about what you like about yourself, and one of what you don’t like abou yourself. While doing this make sure you humble yourself in front of God. In the list of things you don’t like about yourself, see what you can do to fix the things that bother you on that list. Remember the way you look is exactly what God has intended. Also remember these four statements- be honest with yourself, have realistic expectations, be a good friend, and ask God for a true friend (if you ask you will recieve)

Prayer

What do you think when you hear the word prayer?  Do you think of bowing your head, closing your eyes, folding your hands, taking your hat off, or talking to God?  These are some of the things that were mentioned when asked what we thought when we heard the word prayer.  The Lord’s Prayer is found in Matthew 6:5-15 and shows us how to pray.

We also learned that praying for yourself isn’t selfish, even Jesus prayed for himself in the garden before he was taken away to be crucified.  We pray many different ways.  Some people pray in their minds, some out loud, some through song, some through crying, and others pray through drawing or poetry.  Everyone has their own unique way of praying.

Tonight we were given an image.  The image of God sitting on his throne with Jesus at his right hand.  When we pray for someone, we put ourselves where they would usually be.  The story of the paralytic and his friends lowering him from the roof into a crowded room is found in Mark 2:1-12.  When we pray for someone, we are his friends; we are the people who do for that person, what they can’t do for themselves.  We bring them to Jesus when they can’t get themselves there.  Maybe they can get themselves to Jesus, they just choose not to.  Then it’s our responsibility to bring them to Jesus.

Prayer is a powerful thing.  Anyone can do it, and everyone is called to do it.  Jesus was the Great Intercessor, and since we are called to follow after him, we should also pray.

Spiritual Discipline

Tonight we talked about spiritual disciplines.  These include: reading your Bible, prayer, obedience, worship, going to church, fellowshiping, tithing, giving, service, fasting, confession, and solitude.  We also read a lot from the Bible.  We read from Matthew 4:1-11, which is the story of Jesus in the desert, being tempted by satan.  When he was in the desert he was exercising the use of prayer, solitude, and fasting.  Matthew 26:36-38 is the story of when Jesus left his deciples to go pray alone.   1 Corinthians 7:5  is about removing yourself from others so when you come together again you have more selfcontrol.  Hebrews 10:25 is about going to church and fellowshipping with others and ecouraging them.  Matthew 20:28 says that Jesus came to serve, not be served and we should follow his example.  Matthew 10:24-25 says that the servant is not below his master, and the student is not below his teacher.  Therefore, God does not look down on as as something insignificant, he sees us as humans just like everyone else.  Finally, the last place we read from was Exodus 31:3-4 which says that the spirit gave us inteligence, which in turn, gives us artistic gifts to worship God with.  The conclusion of the lesson tonight was that you can’t get closer to God without being with him or talking to him.

People Need God

We often forget about God’s love for us. We know of him and we know we should fear him but we dont really understand the love He has for us. Once you realize the love he has for you, you can have an amazing relationship with him and have the ability to share your faith, because no one elses opinions will matter. Jesus loved us so much he died for all of us. Even those who wont come to know him (1 PEter 3: 18). We should stand for God, but we’re too afraid of being “persicuted”, the “persicution” we’re afraid of is socially unaccepted while there are people over sees being killed for believing in God. Everyone of Jesus’s deciples were killed for standing for Him. They didnt care what others thought… Imagine a time when we didnt care about othes only God the world would be shaken for Christ. Start shaking the world believe and he will take care of you.

To evangelize is to lead people to Christ. God put us on this earth to lead his lost children to him. There are many different ways to evangelize. Dance-lead to different points very cordially. Debate- in order to do this you need to know the facts. Many non-Christians know the bible better that we do and they can use that against us. We need to tell of God’s wonders and what he has done for us. He forgives us and leads us to his light. Once you are born again you need to realize that you are changed and it is for the better.
The steps of evangelism are to know that you are a sinner. Come to terms with the person of Jesus. Decide to accept Christ as your forgiver and leader. Display evidence of Christ’s transformation in your life. And tell others of what he has done for you.
God put us on this earth to tell people about Christ. Be a part of this begininng today and you will feel a great joy and your life will never be the same.

Back to School: August 12, 2009

People have been known to follow a crowd when that crowd is excited about what they are participating in. We, as christians, need to begin to show our excitment for what God has done and will do. You are never too young nor to old to speak about the Lord. 1Timothy 4:11 tells us that age does not matter. Dont let others look down on you for how young you are. Everyone is God’s child and he made us to teach, not to sit around and wait untill we get older.
In this we must see that we must set examples in everything we do. We dont show intrest in christian life and the outcome of that is that the ones who dont know much of, if any thing about God they dont find that pull, that craving to see and experience the great thing they see. In this day in age we find ourselves putting others down more than we do raise them up. We are ment to raise our brother and sisters up. Be an example by the way you treat others, the way you dress, and they way you act daily. We are made in God’s image and the happiest life is the one you follow in his shadow. Start your Godly life today.
